Codex desktop feature request: Spell-check Disable

I just started using Codex desktop on Linux. Overall, it is excellent. The spell-checker underlines in wiggly-red-lines almost half of everything I type. It isn’t helpful (for me) when typing code or pseudo-code or prose that is technical in nature. Can you please include some way for me to disable spell-checking? Thank you!

Spell checking can be disable by doing this:

  • Close ChatGPT process if it’s running.

  • Open this file with a text editor:

~/.config/Codex/Default/Preferences

Remove language found in ‘dictionaries’. For example:

"dictionaries":["en-US"] → "dictionaries":[]

Save and next time you start ChatGPT spell checking shouldn’t be enabled anymore.

Thank you so much. I will do that today.

Thanks for the feedback! We'll share the request for a simple spell-check toggle in the desktop app with the team. We don't have a timeline to share.
