Codex (app) threads should be able to rename themselves (e.g., to include PR #)

Codex (app) threads should be able to rename themselves. One key scenario is to add the # of a PR once once is created to keep track of it. I’ve add instructions to agents.md to rename the thread after a PR is created, but the agent says it doesn’t have access to that. My workaround for now is that the agent proposes a new name and I have to manually apply it.

Thanks for considering this feature.

Codex currently cannot rename the current conversation itself, even when the user explicitly asks it to.

It can infer the desired title, but it cannot apply the rename in the app. This feels like a basic missing capability.

Example use cases:

  • Rename the thread to a PR number

  • Rename the thread to a ticket number

  • Rename the thread to a short task summary

Suggested behavior: If the user says “rename this discussion to PR #1234” or “name this thread auth cleanup”, Codex should be able to do it directly

This seems like a practical feature that could streamline workflow, especially for developers managing multiple PRs or tickets. Automatically renaming threads based on context would reduce manual work and improve organization. Even a simple option to approve or edit the suggested title before renaming could make this very user-friendly and efficient.

Seems like, it is now possible, that codex can list and rename its own threads, for me this would resolve this feature request, thanks
