This is insane. So they’re just deprecating such a core feature without ever telling us?
It’s going to be really funny if in that new movie/documentary about ai companies like this the CEO of GPT talks about how they’re super communicative with their customers and consults with us or at least let’s us know ahead of time before they change big things or even things that seem mundane but are big to at least someone. I can’t remember the name of the documentary and won’t be watching the full one but certainly will look up the GPT CEO parts for a good laugh. One of the only reasons I don’t use Claude instead is because I like the voices for GPT and that you can have the voice read it without going through all the bells and whistles. It is kind of charming though with Gemini. One of my favorite voice options on Gemini sounds JUST like one of my favorite characters from a game called Fire Emblem Three Houses/Hopes.

Can confirm. Navigation arrows are back and all previous history is intect. (Models 5.3 and 5.4 are still horrible, but at least we can once more paginate between each iteration of their generated horribleness.)

edit: they’re only back on the web version for some reason (way better than nothing) but hopefully they’ll continue on to the app version too.

Quite happy it is back. Never remove this feature. I am still unhappy this was gone before GPT 5.1 was removed. I’m also not a fan that regenerating is now limited to the latest models and doesn’t allow you to select legacy models, although I have less reason to that without GPT 5.1.
This problem has appeared in the last few days. I haven’t seen it before. I am based in the UK.
Does anyone know the best route to get this re-looked at by OpenAI?

The arrows are gone since today for me, with a message saying " Editing will permanently overwrite all messages after this point" when trying to edit my prompt
Same here I have not deleted the branched chat, as there’s no “swipe/arrows” UI in regular chats to jump between branches so I have Lost they access to that content and I hace Lost the work of months, is this time definitve? I hace lost access to importante information 
yes. to avoid this you have to select “branch to a new conversation” which is a new conversation which includes all the orginal dialogue up until that point.

I emailed support about this a week ago. only got a vague response in return. If you email them at support@openai.com and keep commenting on this thread, perhaps something might change.
Amazing. Paid users lose a feature that free accounts still have. Apparently, to save a tiny bit of server cost from letting users switch versions in the web UI, you now force users to download all of their data every time they need to recover something which probably costs even more server resources.
