Not 100% sure if this is a ChatGPT or iPhone related issue, but when I use voice to communicate with ChatGPT it tries to interpret my English speaking voice into my local language (Finnish in this case) and then also answers in that local language. It is frustrating as one can imagine when you try to interpret English spoken language to Finnish it is sometimes just gibberish. My iPhone language is English by default and also ChatGPT has English as the default language selected in settings. I also have instructed via updated memory for ChatGPT to use the language that it is being communicated with originally. Still sometimes it just switches to local language. This doesn’t happen all the time, but quite often (~20% of the time). What is up with that?
I’m also having the exact same problem with my Android device as long as I keep the voice Input Language setting as Auto-Detect which is the default value. About 20% of the time it translates my English input into Finnish in the transcription phase and makes somewhat poor translations, which throws ChatGPT off in the conversation. It would be great to get the Auto-Detect setting to work correctly.
But if you set the Input Language setting to English, then all input will be given to ChatGPT in English (even if you speak Finnish.) It’s a bit of an annoyance having to change the setting each time you switch your input language, but at least works around the issue a little.
Same problem: I dictate in English, with an Italian accent, and ChatGPT transcribes it into Italian. I already set “Language” and “Spoken language” both to English, and also provided the same instruction in “Custom instructions”.
Please solve this problem because it kills the usability!
Same problem, both in iPhone and android. I talk in English and it transcribes in Greek and answers in Greek .
Same issue. I am about to smash these devices. I speak English, ChatGPT and also Copilot transcribe it in Italian. A bad italian with a lot of errors, obviously, so I have to start all over again. This is so frustrating.
Obviously my language is set to English in every possible place. Still, the thing doesn’t care. OOOH GOD!
Hi, I’d like to raise an issue about how ChatGPT handles language when I dictate my inputs.
I am Italian, so the system often assumes I want replies in Italian. However, I am fluent in English and I prefer to interact with ChatGPT entirely in English — input, output, reasoning, tool usage, everything.
The problem is that when I dictate in English, ChatGPT most of the time still replies back in Italian or even translates in italian. This breaks the flow and makes the experience frustrating.
What I’d like is a way to set English as my default interaction language so that ChatGPT always, always, always replies in English, regardless of my location or my mother tongue.
Please fix this or give users a clear setting to enforce the language preference
I have the same problem with French. I’ll dictate something in English (with a French accent, sure), and it will auto-translate to French. It’s so annoying, especially while talking about code-related things that don’t translate well out of English.
Why is it doing this ?
