Will ChatGPT Support MCP in Voice Mode on Web and Android?
I’ve been exploring MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration with ChatGPT, and I’ve run into a limitation I’m hoping to get clarity on.
Right now, MCP connectors work in ChatGPT’s text-based chat, letting you connect external tools, data sources, and services directly into your conversations. This is great for extending what ChatGPT can do beyond its built-in capabilities.
The problem: this integration doesn’t seem to carry over to Voice Mode. When I switch to voice on the web app or the Android app, my connected MCP tools either aren’t accessible or don’t function the way they do in text chat.
This is a real gap because voice is exactly where tool integration would shine. Being able to ask ChatGPT to pull data, trigger an action, or query a connected service hands-free would make voice mode far more useful for everyday workflows.
So my questions are:
-
Does anyone know if MCP support in Voice Mode is officially on OpenAI’s roadmap?
-
Is the limitation the same across Web and Android, or does one platform handle it differently?
-
Are there any workarounds people have found to get MCP tools working during voice interactions?
If anyone has insight, official statements, or has gotten this working, I’d really appreciate hearing about it
