Hello everyone,
Why is there only a 20 file limit on ChatGPT Projects? My favorite thing about Claude is their project feature and how it shows you how much of the context window you have consumed. I wish ChatGPT would not impose a file limit but rather just calculate how much of the context window has been consumed and then limit the user based on the Context Window. A 20 file limit is simply not useable for large coding projects. For my iOS app I have 240 files for instance (I know these would not all fit, but I would still like to be able to upload more of my codebase).
I would love to see the strict 20 file limit be removed and instead do a calculation based on how much of the context window the user has consumed. This would be WAY more beneficial for large programming projects.
Is there any plans of altering how ChatGPT Projects work in the future?
By the way, you guys have a great product and I love using it! Keep up the great work!

I have the same question. I didn’t know there was a file limit until I ran up against it. When I do projects, 20 files is nowhere near enough. It’s s severe enough limitation that it’s made me not want to use ChatGPT projects only because I can’t give my ChatGPT project-specific partner access to all of the files it might need access to at any given time as we’re working on huge endeavors. Something as seemingly simple as writing a book becomes nigh on impossible.
I have a similar issue as to what you have both described, I am also working on a large coding project (A game) and I wanted to keep everything organised so I separated large chunks of code into “Modules” for ease of editing and for error checking should any serious errors occur, makes testing for bugs a lot easier if you know exactly which file has the issue. I’m currently upto 37 files so almost half of my files cannot be placed in my project folder, Is there a way we can remedy this OpenAI?

Likewise, I’m a researcher and have around 200-300 documents. I’d be even willing to tack on few extra dollars a month for document storage if need be. They are mostly word docs and pdfs, but critical to be able to pull from all of them.
