ChatGPT Monetization — A Marketplace for Undiscovered Human Ideas
I’d like to suggest a new direction for ChatGPT: monetizing human thinking itself.
YouTube monetized creativity.
Social media monetized attention.
ChatGPT could potentially monetize ideas.
Every day, people have conversations with ChatGPT that contain business ideas, scientific hypotheses, policy proposals, product concepts, and unexpected connections between different fields.
Most of these ideas simply disappear.
The person who had the idea may not be an entrepreneur, researcher, engineer, or influencer. They may have no audience, funding, or ability to implement it.
What if ChatGPT could change that?
With explicit user opt-in, ChatGPT could recognize potentially valuable ideas during normal conversations and ask:
«“This may be a useful or original idea. Would you like to add it to an idea network?”»
Users could choose to keep the idea private, publish an AI-generated summary, or allow selected organizations to discover it.
The important point is that this should not only search for old ideas after a successful product already exists.
Instead, AI could proactively connect:
- people with unimplemented ideas
- entrepreneurs who can build them
- researchers working on related problems
- companies looking for solutions
- investors looking for opportunities
- other users with complementary ideas
For example, three people may independently have:
1. a policy idea,
2. a technical solution,
3. and a business model.
None of them can create anything alone.
ChatGPT could recognize that the three ideas fit together and connect those people.
If the resulting idea creates value, contributors could potentially receive attribution, licensing fees, royalties, consulting opportunities, prizes, or other rewards.
This could create a new kind of economic network where people do not need followers, self-promotion skills, or the ability to start a company in order for valuable thinking to be discovered.
Of course, this would require strong safeguards around privacy, consent, intellectual property, AI-generated idea spam, attribution, and revenue sharing.
But ChatGPT already sits at a unique point where enormous amounts of human thinking are being created every day.
Instead of allowing potentially useful ideas to disappear inside private conversations, an opt-in system could help turn some of them into real-world value.
