I believe I have found a regression in the new ChatGPT macOS desktop application. Updated to the latest version, and there’s no access to previous chats or projects. I can see them all when I use the web version and iOS, but not macOS desktop app.
Environment
- macOS Tahoe 26.5.1
- ChatGPT Desktop
- Version 26.707.91948
- Released July 15, 2026
- ChatGPT Plus
- Logged into the correct account
Expected Behavior
- The desktop app should display my existing chat history and Projects in the left sidebar, matching web and iOS, and previous desktop version prior to installing the update.
Actual Behavior
- The sidebar always shows “No projects.”
- No recent chats are displayed.
- Search successfully finds all of my existing conversations.
- Clicking a search result opens the conversation correctly.
- The conversation itself loads normally.
- The sidebar never updates after opening conversations.
- New chats created in the browser never appear in the desktop sidebar.
Important observations
- ChatGPT displays all chats and Projects correctly on web version.
- iPhone app displays all chats and Projects correctly.
- Desktop Search indexes all conversations correctly.
- Authentication is working correctly.
- This appears to be a desktop navigation/sidebar rendering issue rather than an account synchronization issue.
Troubleshooting already performed
- Logged out and back in.
- Uninstalled and Reinstalled the desktop application.
- Downloaded the latest installer from chatgpt website
- Confirmed the issue persists on version 26.707.91948.
- Browser and iOS continue to function normally.
