Version: 1.2024.301. This is how it’s broken for me. Install the application. Open the application and login. After login it say: “Update required. A new version of ChatGPT Windows is available and must be installed to continue.” Click ‘get download’ button nothing happens. Where do you get the update? How do you continue?
My workaround is to run the application as an Administrator.
The same issue on my PC. “Get doenload button” doesnt work.
For those with update problems. I have been using the ChatGPT Windows desktop app daily since it came out on two different computers and have updated it twice, yes there were two updates already on different days. Have not had any issues with the updates; runs lock clockwork.
Hi,
So far the desktop expierence is feeling great, quite equivalent to the browser side with the additional chat gpt voice feature which is quite handy. The web search seems to be working great too on desktop.
The only downside I’m currently noticing is no zoom in/out feature. Text is quite small on large monitors which was easily combated on desktop by zooming in a little. Hopefully an update in the future could fix that.
Cheers!
11/2/2024 - Latest update showed this after engaging in a conversation
Receiving updates often is nice, still have to figure out (hunt and peck) what the change did as OpenAI does not log what the update did in a public place.
Can we have the feature of chatting with old chat using cmd+spacebar
yeah, you’re right currently, there is no zoom in/out feature in the app but maybe you can using
ctrl
+ =
or ctrl
+ -
to manually zoom in/out in the windows app
hope it works
Can’t log in to the desktop app. Log in logo doesn’t stop spinning and when do the "I try again option# it jumps to the brower version… Which defeats the purpose of having the desktop app…
Ty!
That does work, for some reason it wasn’t working when I tried before, but it works now. Awesome!
Cheers!
There was a recent update a few hours ago but I could not find what changed. Maybe they saw your issue and fixed it.
Also don’t forget to check out the Release Notes.

Hi, thank you for making a Windows application !
I’ve noticed that the advanced voice mode is now included, however on my side, it seems using it makes the app use 100% of my integrated GPU (Intel), which makes it unusable
I have an integrated GPU and a discrete GPU, the app defaults to the integrated one. However, I suppose it shouldn’t really matter as, I guess, most of the work is done on the servers ?
Seems the way to logout of the ChatGPT Windows app has changed. I remember that I would have to logout starting from my icon in the lower left but that has disappeared.
The new way to logout of ChatGPT Windows app is to
- In the Windows tray in the lower right click the up arrow
- Right click the ChatGPT icon
- Select
Log out
Also noticed the Quit
option from the ChatGPT tray icon context menu.
Had a problem were the app was stuck in logging in. Clicking Quit
fixed the problem so that starting ChatGPT Windows app could begin again.
Also was notified that an update was available and a restart was needed. Checked the version in setting to see if it would change after the update, it did not so not so confident about using the version number if reporting problems.
Why is this app so half-baked? Why is the app for MAC so much better? The majority of your user base is on Windows.
Using Windows 11 24H2 IoT which doesn’t have the store & other crap, nor can it be installed (why I love it), so the desktop app can’t be installed. The repository can’t be installed either. Plus literally nobody uses the MS store. Why are you the first app to force it on people? Makes no sense. Something fishy going on here.
I’d be very interested in some of those custom python scripts you have!
