Iāve just had my voice conversation transcript back to me in Welsh, even through he conversation and transcript of ChatGPTās responses are all in English. Iām English and had all my settings as youāre directing me to, so its got to be a bug.

This issue is solved by selecting English as your language preference in settings. If you encounter it after this you should make use of the help centre support system to report the issue help.openai.com and use the icon in the bottom right corner.
The Developer Community does not have the ability to inflence the ChatGPT side of things, we deal with the API and are a volenteer ran forum, the website help system will connect you to the right people regarding ChatGPT issues.
This issue is NOT resolved by having your language preference set to English.

Also having the exact same problem. Beyond frustrating, especially when Iāve spoken at it for several minutes, and I have to do it again.

Same issue. Paid user. Language set to English. Repeatedly telling it never respond or translate to Welsh and it still does. It said it translates to Welsh as my job involves speaking Welsh, which I have never told it and it doesnāt

Happening to me on the paid version, funnily enough I tried putting on a posh southern accent, it then took the voice recording in English and responded in English, but if I talk in my normal voice it thinks Iām Welsh. I have a fairly neutral accent with a slight scouse / manc twang sometimes, so maybe just doesnāt fair well recognising that sort of accent

No, it isnāt. You have posted this multiple times and the repetition has not made it more true. I am glad this solution worked for you however.
As to the nature of it, the bug is obscure. We can hope that visibility helps: ChatGPT itself cannot diagnose its own problem, often referring to help channels that donāt exist.

Hi, just started using chat gpt and it is translating what i say to welsh and then responding in welsh.
I live in leeds but recently went to wales and can speak welsh but have never on my phone. All the settings on my phone seem to be uk english and there isnt even a welsh option on the language setting that i can find.
Strangely if i speak to it in welsh, the transcription of what i say is terrible. Confused and any help welcome!!!

Weird, Iām from leeds too and its doing the same, it could be an accent thing but I doubt it. Itās understanding what I am saying in english then by itself translating to welsh.
Im having the same problem (26th May). Im from the North West as well so donāt know if thereās any correlation there

I just signed up to paid this week and Iām having the exact same issue. Itās driving me nuts!

Iām having the same issue, I talk to it in English and then it translate it to Welsh. Iāve checked all my settings. I live in south England so donāt have any real accent. Itās so frustrating it even says, Iāve translated it back into English for you even though Iām speaking in English, so frustrating. Plus Iāve paid for that premium service. It must be a glitch!

I am also having this issue.
My assumption was that it didnāt understand my accent. However it knows I am speaking in English as it is understanding what I say and then responding verbally in English. Itās just that what it transcribes in Welsh!
ChatGPT itself recognises that all my setting are correct and that it understands my accent.

+1 - same problem here.
Dictate voice in iOS ChatGPT app (iPhone 15 Pro Max, English in all settings, never had any cause to change that).
Translation in Welsh.

It translates it to use Welsh

Itās just started happening for me, since June 2025. Canāt believe it, so annoying. It was annoying enough before that!
