After the launch of ChatGPT 5, I decided to try out “vibe coding” as a non-developer and it really works! Starting from a Github example, I made an Alexa skill that connects to the GPT-5-Chat language model. You can now chat with Alexa about any topic in a much smarter fashion than normal Alexa. The skill got certified by Amazon in one day. Check it out by saying “Alexa, enable my A.I.” and then “Alexa, open my A.I.”, or by searching “ChatGPT 5 Unofficial” in the Alexa skill store.
I’d love to hear your feedback on this skill. My future plans are to expand it to other languages besides English using more vibe coding and to maybe allow persistent context across sessions for subscribed users after using the nano model to scrub personally identifying information.
For some reason I wasn’t able to get the Responses API to work, so I had to use the Chat Completions API which doesn’t allow web search. It seems to be pretty similar so I don’t understand why my code times out every time I try to use it.
