Right now my 2 chatgpt tabs I have open: one home page with all my chats and one tab where I’m making a cool project (it reads a google sheet for me). These 2 tabs are using
5.9 gigabytes of ram in Chrome. This aint scalable.
I’m paying for pro, I expect all of the AI magic to be happening on open ai’s servers, not my rapidly aging 2020 macbook air. I don’t want my computer resources to be used this way on mostly idle tabs.
Some of the language in this thread is getting very creepy: No I will not limit the number of chat threads I have, and no I don’t want to limit the length of my conversations. If long conversations generate slower I can live with that, but they shouldn’t make my machine run slow for the crime of keeping a tab open for easy access (easy access is the POINT).
However, I can say that if chatgpt made it easier to search through your chats with the global search (right now it only searches for the names of the chats (which are randomly ai chosen, as opposed to the content of your chats) it wouldn’t be necessary for me to keep open a long thread called random October questions and similar (I’m doing this once per month for all my random queries, because I don’t want to search through 1000 short chats, or manually delete 1000 chats per month.
Ironically, the best way to do a global search of all your chats would be to request your GDPR data export as a json file, and then re upload it to a chat and analyze it ![]()
