Chat Export and Share Feedback Submission

Dear OpenAI Team,

The ChatGPT platform currently offers excellent in-app rendering of conversations, with strong formatting, headings, and structured replies. However, there are several critical limitations that affect the ability to export or share this content professionally:

1. High-Quality Export with Original Styles
While chat content clearly leverages markdown and internal stylesheets for clean rendering inside the apps, these styles are not preserved when exporting.
Current export mechanisms (e.g., Python script-based DOCX generation) are extremely limited, resulting in:

  • Poor layout fidelity
  • Loss of tables, headings, bold text, code blocks
  • Broken formatting in Word/PDF output

Request:
Please implement a first-class Export function that preserves the full original chat formatting, including:

  • Headings
  • Lists
  • Tables
  • Bold/italic
  • Code blocks
  • Blockquotes
  • Images

Ideally, the system should apply the same internal stylesheet that controls in-app rendering to exported documents.

2. Share Link Feature Gaps
Currently, the Share Link feature is inconsistently available.
Users are unable to generate shareable links when:

  • A chat belongs to a Project
  • A chat includes a user-uploaded image

These limitations severely restrict collaborative workflows, especially when users need to share rich technical or creative sessions.

Request:
Please remove these Share Link restrictions, or at minimum:

  • Allow link sharing for Project-associated chats
  • Allow link sharing with user-uploaded images (even if images are displayed as download links)

Summary:
ChatGPT’s value is significantly increased when users can export and share chats cleanly, preserving the thoughtful structure of the conversations.
High-quality exports and reliable link sharing are critical for users working across business, education, and technical environments.

Thank you for your attention to these improvements — I am happy to expand on these use cases if helpful.

Cheers Darren
