Dear OpenAI Team,
Firstly, thank you for developing Canvas Mode — it’s a promising tool for structured document collaboration. However, there are several critical gaps that severely limit its use for serious or professional workflows:
1. Missing Export Capability
There is currently no way to export Canvas documents to PDF or Word (DOCX) format across all ChatGPT clients (Web, Windows, Mac).
Exporting structured documents is critical for sharing, printing, formal editing, and offline access.
Request: Please prioritize adding reliable PDF and Word export support across all platforms.
2. Persistent Document Library
Today, Canvas documents seem session-tied and difficult to retrieve. Users have no easy way to view or manage previously created Canvas documents.
Request: Implement a library or dashboard to manage, reopen, and organize all Canvas documents linked to a user’s account.
3. Switching Between Canvas Documents
Within a single ChatGPT session, there is no way to switch between different open Canvas documents.
Request: Introduce tab support or a quick document switcher, similar to working across multiple tabs or projects in professional editors.
4. Display of Images and Markup Handling
Currently, images inserted into Canvas do not render visually or even show placeholders.
This creates confusion and broken layouts when exporting or collaborating.
Request: Even if images cannot render fully in real-time yet, please at least show image markup or a clear placeholder to indicate where an image will appear in exported output.
Summary:
Canvas has huge potential but urgently needs these foundational features to be viable for business, academic, and professional users.
Thank you for considering this feedback. I am happy to provide further detail or use case examples if useful.
Cheers Darren
