Today I found canvas very useful in assisting writing, but after a few hours of use, it seems to be lost. I have tried various ways to activate the canvas function, and the response from GPT seems that GPT itself does not know what ChatGPT 4o with canvas is.
Has anyone encountered the same situation?

For those of us that regularly use canvas, the official release notes to prompt with use canvas . That does not always work but it does get one going in the right direction.

Unfortunately, none of them worked. Do I need to do something to restore the entire canvas function, or am I doing something wrong?
I do not use GPT-4o with canvas for writing but coding, so basically the same steps but you get a writing submenu and I get a coding submenu in the lower right.
Using ChatGPT with GPT-4o with canvas selected
- Paste what you are writing as a prompt. Just the prose, no actions or anything else. When I do the same for coding it is the source code as found, nothing more.
- When ChatGPT reads that and is ready for a new reply, enter just
use canvas. This should open up your prose in a canvas and move the conversation to the left side.
Now you can ask ChatGPT to make modifications as normal in the conversation, edit the prose in the canvas and make use of the writing submenu in the lower right.

Another option to try is to see if you have a canvas created and it is minimized.
In the upper right when a canvas exist and is minimized you will see a document icon 
If you see that click on it and it should open up the canvas .
When a canvas is open, in the upper right is an X
but it does not close or delete the canvas, it just minimizes it.

This is not the situation. I think back and it seems that the article I asked GPT to write a few hours ago seems to violate their guidelines. for god’s sake, I just let the protagonist use snow to bathe himself as a stimulus in order to keep his brain clear. It seems that similar operations will cause the canvas to fail, and then only the ordinary GPT4-O will be left.

There are a few of us that discuss what we learn about using canvas with coding and violation of guidelines is not something I would have considered nor that we have talked about.
Will keep that in mind. 
UPDATE: The pattern I’ve found so far, this issue is supposed to be time limited, I contacted GPT customer service and it was resolved without any response, but the glitch recurred during use, and I’ve noticed that the frequency of this issue not occurring is in the time range of around 04:30:00 PST to 18:30:00 PST, and I suspect that they have a couple of separate servers for canvas! I’m not sure of their server distribution, and if you consider my location, I’m supposed to be connecting from Japan using the APJ regional servers, and outside of that timeframe, it’s supposed to be maintenance time for the servers that canvas is using, and during maintenance time, while everyone can see that the canvas option exists, if you ask the GPT what canvas is, it won’t be aware of it. ChatGpt will have something called GPT4O with canvas, and people in other regions who have reported such issues should also notice that the issue is temporal, anyway very funny to find the problem node, I’ll be looking for some VPNs tomorrow to try the US and European nodes to see if there’s an issue!

WELL, now that the issue has happened once again, I’m basically sure that the issue doesn’t appear to be regionally related, and am a little frustrated that I’m going to need to stay up late if I want to use this feature to assist me in my writing!
