🔴 [Bug] ChatGPT — Global Reset Bug (History disappears, resets on reply) — Nov 19, 2025

This is NOT off-topic — this is a system-wide malfunction and MUST reach engineering.

:red_square: Critical issue description:

– Multiple chats freeze or loop when replying
– Messages disappear or load partially
– Conversation resets itself after every user message
– “Request not allowed”, “Something went wrong”, “Network error” appear constantly
– Voice messages do not load
– Desktop app shows “Content Loading Failed”
– Some chats show a black screen with no history at all

This is not a browser issue.
This is a progressive server-side bug that appeared after the latest update.
It causes real data and memory loss.

:twelve_o_clock: Timeline:
• Started around 15:30 UTC, Nov 19
• Still ongoing for 10+ hours
• Downdetector + Reddit threads confirm it’s widespread
• status.openai.com still shows “All systems operational”

:green_square: Support cannot help:
Support bot replies only with templates and cannot escalate.
There is currently no way to reach an engineer directly.

:hammer_and_wrench: What we need from OpenAI team:

  1. Acknowledge the incident publicly

  2. Update the status page

  3. Confirm engineering investigation

  4. Prevent further data loss in active chats

The issue is now escalating further. Not only are chats resetting and history disappearing — but also threads are rolling back in time.

New messages vanish. Chat is losing memory of recent replies.

This is beyond visual bug — it’s a memory-level failure.

Please escalate. Users are actively losing important data.

Hi Spencer, thanks for responding, but respectfully, I must clarify:

Help and support do not assist with this kind of issue.

I have written to support since August, including over 50 messages - they never helped.

The bot replies with the same script and does not escalate anything to engineers.

There has been no human response in over a month.

This is a system-wide failure - not a personal support issue.

The forum is the only place where engineers might see what’s going on, as users are losing memory, threads, and entire conversations due to a major ChatGPT reset bug.

The incident has been ongoing for over 24 hours - since November 19 at ~12:00 UTC.

Please do not remove this topic - it’s not off-topic, it’s the only lifeline we have.

:warning: Update – Nov 20, 16:10 CET

Although public sources say the outage was resolved on Nov 18, this is not true for ChatGPT.

I started experiencing full resets and disappearing chats on Nov 19 around 12:00 UTC, and the problem is still ongoing on Nov 20.

This seems to be a separate incident not acknowledged on status.openai.com.

Memory loss, chat resets, and rollback bugs persist — especially in long sessions.

Please escalate. Many users still affected.
