API access to chat histories: what is possible?

Hello everyone,

I have a ChatGPT-Team account through my company.

A test phase is currently taking place:
A CustomGPT that can access the company wiki via an API to help colleagues search better.

I’ve heard that it should be possible to view chat histories.
Apparently via this API.

I’m not familiar with this, but I’m very curious!
How does it work?
Or does it work at all?

Here are my questions in detail:

  1. can only the chat histories of this one CustomGPT be viewed?
  2. can the chat histories of our overall company models, such as o1, ChatGPT-4o etc. be viewed?
  3. i have a total of 4 CustomGPTs myself:
  • One that only I use and that has not been activated for anyone else
  • Two specialized GPTs that are activated for about 8 colleagues
  • One that is currently being configured and is also only available to me

=> Can the chat histories of other CustomGPTs also be viewed via a ChatGPT team environment and via such an API?

This function has now been introduced to us in the company context.

It was explained that only the chat histories that run via this specific GPT can be viewed via the API interface.

I am taking part in this test phase for the first time myself.

I would therefore like to make 2 additional points:

  • this API interface query only takes effect if the user is connected to VPN.

  • the user must explicitly agree to interact with this specialized GPT and the API interface.
