I want to share an issue I experienced with the ChatGPT Android app in case it helps other users or the OpenAI team.
I have a HONOR Magic7 Lite (model BRP-NX3). The ChatGPT Android app was working normally.
The problem started immediately after I signed out of my account in order to temporarily use another ChatGPT account. When I tried to sign back into my original account, the app became stuck loading indefinitely during the login process.
What was strange is that:
-
My account worked normally when logging in through Chrome on the same phone.
-
Chrome was already set as the default browser.
-
Google Play Store was up to date.
-
I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the official ChatGPT app from Google Play.
-
I cleared the app cache and Chrome cache.
-
There was no VPN or private/custom DNS configured.
-
The official ChatGPT app was installed from Google Play and published by OpenAI.
-
I initially found two ChatGPT entries under Android’s installed applications. One was around 92 MB and another was only 207 KB. I eventually removed both and installed the official app again.
-
Even after a clean installation, the login screen continued to show the loading spinner indefinitely.
The issue was eventually resolved and the app started working normally again with my original account.
The important detail is that the problem began immediately after signing out in order to switch to another account.
This makes me wonder whether there could be an issue with the authentication/session state after switching accounts in the Android app.
I’m sharing this in case other Android users experience the same behavior after switching accounts.
