It would be very helpful if ChatGPT could open, surface, or “bump” an existing conversation after identifying which old chat the user is referring to.
For example, I recently asked ChatGPT which previous conversation contained a set of lecture files I had uploaded. ChatGPT was able to identify the conversation and give me search terms, but it could not open that conversation or send anything to it.
A feature such as “Open this chat”, “Go to conversation”, or “Surface this conversation” would make it much easier to recover important chats that have become buried in a long conversation history.
This would be especially useful for users who use ChatGPT for school, projects, or long-term work and may have hundreds of conversations. Search is helpful, but if ChatGPT already knows exactly which conversation is relevant, it would be much more convenient to let the user jump directly to it.
