Cool I made an account and left my text color feedback. Thanks for sharing. @phyde1001 and his child do a lot together too. You should make a proud parent thread and let folks talk about how they and their children use AI.

DeepMind just released Genie 2, a foundational world model, Genie 2: A large-scale foundation world model - Google DeepMind

Based on a single prompt image, it can be played by a human or AI agent using keyboard and mouse inputs.

Basically game generation, environment simulation, etc.

In the 90s I was a big fan of full motion video (FMV) games. I reckon there may be a use case in applying models like Genie 2 to re-create classic FMV titles like Tex Murphy and 7th Guest and give them some new life.

I wonder who will turn Zork into a real gameworld first haha… Though looking at the maps it might be tricky…

@phyde1001 you should start the proud parent thread, show some of the work you have been doing. I don’t have kids except a cat and she is barely a cat… :cat2::rabbit::honeybee::infinity::heart::four_leaf_clover::repeat:

I think a lot of folks do projects with family, it IMO would enhance community and humanize AI

So folks are less scared.

OpenAI is reportedly in discussions with Microsoft to remove the infamous AGI clause from their partnership contract, potentially unlocking access to additional investment funding.

https://www.msn.com/en-in/technology/artificial-intelligence/openai-to-ditch-agi-clause-to-unlock-investment-from-microsoft/ar-AA1vowlA

In my opinion, this clause has been a significant roadblock for OpenAI in declaring AGI, although this may not have been the case in the past. It is possible that we could see an official announcement of AGI being achieved sooner rather than later.

I saw this new tool recently: https://countless.dev/. It basically provides price comparison and price calculation for 500+ different models. I recall several topics in this community related to pricing and price comparisons. While you should always refer to official OpenAI pricing information, this tool might still come in handy.

The article describes a San Francisco tech startup called Artisan and its eye-catching, dystopian-themed advertising campaign. The company’s billboards and bus shelter ads boldly encourage employers to replace human workers with AI “employees,” featuring slogans like “Stop hiring humans” and dismissing concerns about work-life balance or malfunctioning Zoom cameras.

Artisan currently offers a single product: “Ava,” an AI “sales agent” designed to autonomously find and message potential customers at a fraction of the cost of a human hire. Despite Artisan’s small size and the absence of multiple product lines, its provocative branding has drawn significant attention online, sparking criticism as well as increased brand awareness. The CEO, Jaspar Carmichael-Jack, acknowledges that the ads are “dystopian,” but claims that they reflect a rapidly changing world and have successfully generated sales leads.

While the campaign is designed to stand out in San Francisco’s saturated tech advertising environment, many observers find the messages ominous and mean-spirited, particularly in a city grappling with layoffs and labor disputes. The company’s bold approach contrasts with more established firms that stress AI as a complement, rather than a replacement, to human workers. Despite the backlash, Artisan’s leadership sees the controversy as beneficial, fueling conversation around the “AI revolution” they aim to symbolize.

Apple is collaborating with Broadcom to develop its first AI-focused server chip, codenamed Baltra, expected to enter mass production by 2026. The chip will utilize Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s advanced N3P process, reflecting Apple’s ongoing push to reduce dependency on Nvidia’s GPUs, which are costly and often in short supply.

This aligns with Apple’s broader strategy of creating in-house chips, following successes like the M-series processors in Mac laptops. Baltra will power compute-heavy AI tasks, supporting features across Apple’s ecosystem. Broadcom, already benefiting from AI-driven demand, has seen its stock surge this year, positioning it as a major player in the expanding custom AI chip market.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the creation of an AI Alliance Network in partnership with BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and other countries, aiming to challenge U.S. dominance in artificial intelligence. The alliance will focus on joint AI research, technology regulation, and market opportunities.

Speaking at Moscow’s flagship AI conference, Putin emphasized Russia’s commitment to becoming a global AI leader despite facing challenges from Western sanctions, which have restricted access to critical microchips. Sberbank and Yandex, Russia’s tech giants, are leading domestic AI efforts, with tools like GigaChat and YandexGPT.

The AI initiative projects that AI technologies could add 11.2 trillion roubles ($109 billion) to Russia’s GDP by 2030. The plan also includes ambitious goals, such as increasing AI-skilled workers to 80% of the workforce and growing AI investment sevenfold.

Dr. Alan Bekker, the founder of the AI behind Snap’s “My AI” chatbot, has launched a new venture called eSelf after raising $4.5 million in seed funding. This startup focuses on real-time, video-based conversational AI agents tailored for industries like education, sales, and healthcare. eSelf’s no-code platform allows users to create personalized agents capable of managing apps like Calendly or Salesforce, promising faster query response times than leading competitors.

With co-founder Eylon Shoshan, Bekker envisions a shift from text-based chatbots to more interactive, human-like AI experiences. The company uses fine-tuned models like Meta’s Llama instead of developing its own, aiming to reduce costs and latency. Already partnering with clients such as Christie’s and Brazilian bank AGI, eSelf hopes to lead the next generation of AI interaction in a crowded market of emerging agent-based AI technologies.

OpenAI fires back at Elon Musk bid to block for-profit conversion

OpenAI asked a federal judge in California on Friday to reject a request by billionaire Elon Musk to halt the ChatGPT maker’s conversion to a for-profit company. OpenAI also published a trove of emails and text messages with Musk on its website to argue that he initially backed for-profit status for OpenAI before walking away from the company after failing to get a majority equity stake and full control.

AI with reasoning power will be less predictable, Ilya Sutskever says

Accepting a “Test Of Time” award for his 2014 paper with Google’s Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le, Sutskever said a major change was on AI’s horizon. An idea that his team had explored a decade ago, that scaling up data to “pre-train” AI systems would send them to new heights, was starting to reach its limits, he said. More data and computing power had resulted in ChatGPT that OpenAI launched in 2022, to the world’s acclaim.
