AI-assisted Projects: organize knowledge across multiple conversations

Title: AI-assisted Projects: organize knowledge across multiple conversations

I use ChatGPT every day, not just to ask isolated questions, but to build long-term projects over weeks and months.

The current conversation-based organization has one important limitation: related discussions often end up scattered across many different chats. After a while, I may remember the topic, but not which conversation contains it.

I would like to propose a new feature called Projects.

Each project would represent a long-term topic (for example: Personal Organization, Health, Teaching, Home Improvement, etc.).

The most important part is that ChatGPT should proactively suggest linking a conversation to an existing project when it detects a recurring topic. The user could simply accept or dismiss the suggestion.

A project would then gather the relevant knowledge from multiple conversations while preserving the conversations themselves.

This would allow users to continue developing ideas over months without having to remember where a discussion took place.

The goal is not simply to organize conversations. The goal is to let ChatGPT help organize knowledge and long-term thinking, instead of expecting users to manage that organization manually.

I believe this would make ChatGPT much more valuable for people who use it as a long-term thinking partner rather than only for one-off questions.

Would this feature be useful to other users as well?

Small clarification:

I know ChatGPT already has Projects. My suggestion is different.

I would like ChatGPT to proactively recognize recurring topics across conversations and suggest linking them to the appropriate project automatically.

The key idea is AI-assisted organization, not just manual project management.

I can relate to this problem. I’ve actually built a small Chrome extension around maintaining project context across AI conversations. It’s not exactly the feature you described, but it tackles a similar problem from a different angle. If you’re open to testing it and giving honest feedback, I’d be happy to send you the link..
