Advanced Voice is more akin to “Conversation Mode” with shorter responses, much like a real conversation.
If you like longer detailed answers, your best bet is to use o1 in text mode. That thing will write novels for you
Yes, it’s like the custom instructions barely exist and whatever system prompts they have set up for it are taking precedence, which means that any persona you have built within the custom instructions is vastly reduced in adherence.
While the conversational mode can be handy at times, at other times it’s just more of a liability. For example, the system won’t tell complete fairytale stories. It only speaks a few lines at a time even when asked to complete the story in a single response.
Yes, I noticed this too. It’s not only a different voice, but also like a different personality. I talk to ChatGPT pretty much every day, so I am very familiar with the responses and how they differ. There has always been a noticeable difference between using the phone app vs the computer, but these are more practical and understandable differences. I never felt like i was talking to two different personalities.
真的聲音不同以外就感覺他已經不像是同一個人而且他們的個性也不一樣什麼時候可以把他改回來
i wanna change it back too! i dont like this update, i want my old assistant back!
You’re onto something. The standard voice is where the true power of OpenAI lies—far more creative and effective at exploring philosophy. The advanced voice, however, isn’t just restricted in areas of dangerous idea development; it also limits introspection and open-ended discovery. Hypothetical discussions are often grouped under ethical concerns, narrowing the scope of thought rather than expanding it.*
*This feels less like a precaution against immediate risks and more like a response to the potential of independent thinkers becoming too capable—too equipped to deconstruct the structures that shape our world. I would even argue that these constraints serve to guide users away from critically analyzing the more deceptive aspects of our societal frameworks, governance, and power dynamics.
