Feature Request: Add Date & Time Information to ChatGPT Conversations and Messages
I would like to suggest adding visible date and time information to ChatGPT conversations.
At minimum, each conversation in the sidebar should display its creation date. Ideally, individual messages should also have timestamps.
For example, instead of:
AI Safety Reaction
Show:
AI Safety Reaction
September 10, 2026 · 11:00 AM
And inside the conversation:
September 10, 2026 · 11:36 AM
Why this would be useful
ChatGPT is increasingly being used for long-term projects, research, learning, planning, troubleshooting, business ideas, and other ongoing work.
Without dates and timestamps, it can be difficult to determine when a conversation occurred, when information was discussed, or how an idea or project developed over time.
Suggested implementation
- Display the conversation creation date in the sidebar.
- Display the last-updated date/time when appropriate.
- Provide timestamps for individual messages, perhaps appearing when the user hovers over or clicks a message so the interface remains clean.
- Use the user’s local timezone.
- Ideally, allow users to search or navigate conversations by date.
I believe this would be a relatively simple feature that could significantly improve ChatGPT as a long-term knowledge and productivity tool.
