WHAT!?: "The 'gpt-5.2-codex' model is not supported when using Codex with a ChatGPT account."

i was using codex via official extension inside my VS Code IDE as usual, for like 2-3 weeks,
and 20 minutes ago suddenly my next prompt returned this error:

I relogged in the extension, but that didnt help
What is going on?
so what i have supposed to do now? i want to use 5.2 codex (it eats less limit resources)
i switched to 5.2 normal, and it works, but im not sure if thats a solution…
I feel unpleasantly surprised and anoyed.

But yes, when I do /model in the cli at least it’s not in the available selection, suggesting the same (I’m logged in via ChatGPT).

Yes, GPT-5.2 has recently been retired from ChatGPT. As of today it’s only available via the API.

2. and why You doing that? i mean why turning off CODEX models for a CODE jobs in VS Code IDE?

The extension “Codex – OpenAI’s coding agent v26.318.11754 “ im using is allowing to log in only via ChatGPT or via API, so its logical that we log with the chatGPT login to a CODE making tool, and want to use CODEX models coz they are for coding, obviously.

@khalilcode8 is the newer version allow to login with anything else? i believe i was buying CODEX subscription in the first place, but it was with ChatGPT as well in packet, well its all with packet and named “PLUS plan”, sooo how many other login ways are there to access just codex?somebody tell me the one, that allows using CODEX models in the official extension lol

GPT 5.3 Codex is coding Specialist like a senior dev focused on execution but GPT-5.4 is more powerful i think like “Tech Lead + Architect + Analyst” it combines:

Not true. You can login into Codex CLI via your ChatGPT account and access it.

The problem is 5.4 consumes credits like there is no tomorrow. I have switched occasionally to it , the weekly quota disappears within hours , in fact a chat session with GPT 5.4 explained it uses around some 20x more …
