Often the first official way I learn of such is via X announcements, which is not what gives us a heads up.

Right now, the Apps SDK mainly gives us the basics like documentation, examples, and simple UI components. From what it look like, more helpful tools are coming such as easier ways to test apps, better error messages and clearer option for managing and publishing apps. As things improve over time it should become much easier to plan changes and handle migration smoothly.
