Well, in that case, congratulations on your accomplishment, it probably is an incredible piece of software!
I think a lot of people would benefit from a program of this kind.
I use GitHub Copilot a TON and it has made my life as a developer a lot easier.
It won’t cost me my job though.
Maybe your program would? I’m not sure, I think there will still be people that have to use the tool. I don’t think CEOs would have the time to use the tool or refine outputs until they’re 100% satisfied.
This is probably the biggest issue, the human opinion, where someone will always have something on their mind that they want changed in the final product.
It’s hard to say without any info on the tool, but I respect your decision to keep it private.
So what do you think? Are governments prepared for that?
Should they be the first to get it? What if they use it to create advanced weapon systems with it?
Believe me instead of letting their 15 developers (who use copilot) work on it for the next 7 years and burn 20 million they will sit in front of it for a weekend ![]()
Maybe. Or they just hire 1 person to use the tool for them while they do something else. But yeah, probably something along those lines.
This is true for pretty much any invention ever.
You just created the sharpest knife in the world.
Will you release it to the public for chefs to use for cooking?
Will it be used for murder?
Same with cars.
No matter what you invent - chances are it can and will be used for bad.
Usually the good outweighs the bad though.
Personally, if you ask me - open source is the way to go in almost all cases.
Why limit anything to only a small amount of people?
I think everyone should be able to have access to knowledge and tools to make a better future.
Yes there will be bad actors but they will simply always be a thing.
I am not doing that.
Because I have no idea what the consquences are. My wife asked me to not release it. It feels like scorched earth.
It doesn’t feel like a knife… more like a star destroyer and giving everyone the key feels kind of wrong.
Then don’t! It’s completely up to you.
I do think that eventually, someone might be able to reproduce a tool like yours in the future, and it will eventually happen.
If that’s weeks, months or years doesn’t matter - it will happen if AI keeps getting smarter and smarter.
GitHub Copilot, for me at least, is the best one out there for public use so far and it will only get better from here.
I’d say make some money off of it while you still can! ![]()
Just kidding - in all seriousness, I don’t think the world will go under if a program like this was released.
Compare it to the internet - probably the biggest invention in the past few centuries technology wise.
It can be used for bad, and it is being used for bad things as we speak.
But the majority of it is a blessing, it all depends on perspective.
You do you!
Let’s do the following. You imagine some complicated type of software for next week. And I’ll put it in the system and then put the result online…
I mean just to make the whole discussion more serious.
That sounds like an awesome experiment!
In my opinion, games are one of the most difficult feats when developing as you have to be knowledgeable while also finding out what “feels good” in terms of visuals and controls.
My proposition:
A fullstack, easily deployable webapp that lets people create a lobby with a code using websockets. Others can join with that code. There is a chat and people can visually see each other in the lobby. Once everyone readies up, a game of poker will start - with a twist. There should be special cards that multiply card values or alter the way a hand is played, some also have negative effects, similar to the game Balatro. At the end the winners are displayed - the top people with the highest score. The design should be modern with animations, hover effects and transitions. The game should have visually appealing effects like particles, glowing elements and an element of randomness in the gameplay. There should be a singleplayer mode as well that keeps track of highscores on the world leaderboard which is displayed on the frontpage.
Now if your program can make that zero-shot or few-shot, while being visually pleasing and fun to play, I would be very impressed! ![]()
The system will not use websockets but mercure instead - but could you post one next week please?
A good dev can build that without AI in a couple days…
I’m just testing the waters here - mercure would be fine!
I think for an AI it is a complex task - but sure, we can go more complicated - though I would love to see what the tool comes up with!
I’ll post one next week or the week after that and really think about something truly difficult - even for seasoned developers, but I would love to see the result of your tool for my previous request! ![]()
For AI implementing mercure would never work on full auto… I guess… So there are things in the backend that go far beyond LLM stuff and capabilities.
Hm, it seems like there are limitations starting to show up that a dev would have to take care of!
But I understand that it can’t just magically do everything.
How about a browser-based 3D multiplayer sandbox game with real-time physics and AI-driven procedural generation?
Libraries for this suggested by ChatGPT (You can mix and match however you want so it works, or use libraries that the tool or you chooses, you know the tool best, these are just suggestions):
That I did take care of… Of course if you want to use a point cloud to create 3D modeling and do some evaluations and train a model that would change the furniture to feng shui style you will have to plugin the device that delivers the point cloud and maybe even have to explain what feng shui means to you.
You might have to label stuff also - but to build a labeler you say “I want to show you what the stuff means”
But it is all done in natural (not the programming language) language
And if you want to make a robot you will have to do some physical stuff … but that goes more in another direction than pure programing.
And the prompts would be more like “the robot should be able to iron my shirts” and not "like
int val = analogRead(0);
...
I see what you mean, the 3d webgame i mentioned above should be possible purely programmatically. It doesn’t need to have crazy 3D-Models, just primitive shapes.
I’m trying to see what your tool is capable of zero-shot, meaning one prompt.
Feel free to refine my prompt however your tool needs it. Just try to make the application - that’s how a CEO would probably say it and use it.
I didn’t say it is zero shot… I said no programing is involved - or more precisely no programming language… It asks questions. Maybe a lot of questions and also asks for stuff to be done… Just not programming.
Building a strategy layer on top that solves everything based on combined data is something I am also going to build with it.
Obviously you can’t just say create a program that “solves physics in a single equation” (or maybe it can… let’s give that a shot as well).
But you can explain what your ideas are to make a program and it writes the code for that and does the infrastructure.
Linda from frontdesk will most likely get a learning path to take first.
That’s fine, and that seems logical.
So try to make the program I mentioned as close as possible. I’m sure you can answer the questions as you go!
It is sounding like you are already having all the answers so I am wondering now why you are making this post asking questions?
Is you purpose being here to just be able to tell everyone how they are wrong and know nothing while you are being so so smart?
A deterministic PDF parser which outputs a latex file which can be compiled into a PDF/UA PDF that is being a pixel perfect match to the original.
chop wood and carry water my friend
I am understanding you aren’t liking my answer to your question here: How did ChatGPT determine my location?
But following me to this unrelated thread to be harassing me about my the status of my profile is maybe being a reason why my profile is as it is?
My point was being that we are all nobody’s to each other and should not be making the assumptions that others are knowing nothing.
There is nothing on my profile which would let you be knowing me any more better than you do now, but you’re such fixating on it is telling me more about who you are being than any profile ever could.
