Umm looks like recent versions may prevent scrolling up for more information in tmux session via ctrl+B+[

Normally i would launch codex session into a tmux session so i can leave screen frequently

Recently i found that last sent messages is pinned at the top of the terminal as a new functionality, which is good but seemingly prevents scrolling up for more information in a tmux session via ctrl+B+[ . I see the top right would show “[0/0]”, where normally we should be able to see many more historical lines in a tmux. Don’t know how this can be resolved?

Welcome to the forum!

You posted this in the appropriate place on the forum for discussing and documenting a Codex bug. The forum, however, is not the official issue tracker. If the problem needs to be formally reported and tracked by the Codex maintainers, the official place is the OpenAI Codex GitHub issue tracker.

In the future please follow the posting requirements for the Codex Bugs subcategory:

The latest version of the CLI defaults to “fullscreen transcript” mode. If you’d like to switch back to the traditional “scrollback mode” where the terminal emulator handles scrolling, you can use the /tui command.

If that issue describes the same problem you are experiencing, consider adding a :+1: reaction to the GitHub issue itself, rather than only reacting to this forum topic. GitHub reactions can help the maintainers gauge how many users are affected.

If it does not match your problem closely enough, search the existing Codex issues for a better match. If you cannot find one, consider opening a new issue and include as much relevant information as possible, such as your Codex version, operating system, environment, reproduction steps, expected behavior, actual behavior, and any relevant logs or error messages.

Run codex: codex --no-alt-screen

Hi @qying — I understand how losing scrollback makes longer sessions difficult to review. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

@EricGT, thanks for sharing the troubleshooting steps. As you mentioned, this may be related to fullscreen transcript mode.

@qying, try `/tui`, choose scrollback mode, and relaunch Codex for the change to apply. You can also try Efferatus’s suggestion: `codex --no-alt-screen`, which disables alternate screen mode.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, please reply here with your Codex CLI and tmux versions, terminal application, and operating system version to help narrow it down.
