Hi team,
I’m using ChatGPT with Google Drive enabled, and I’ve noticed a UI behavior that can easily cause misunderstanding.
When I try to have ChatGPT “reference Google Drive,” the UI sometimes shows a Google Drive folder/file name as if it were a source, but it also says “None” (meaning it wasn’t actually read/used).
From a user perspective, this is confusing and misleading:
- The source name being displayed implies it was referenced.
- “None” suggests it was not referenced.
These two signals conflict, and the user can’t reliably tell what was truly used.
My suggestion is simple:
If a Drive source was not actually referenced, it should not be shown in the “referenced/source” area at all. Showing unused sources there only creates confusion and reduces trust.
If there is a need to show “candidates” or “available sources,” it would be better to separate them clearly from “actually referenced sources” (e.g., in a collapsed section labeled “not used”).
Thanks for considering this—this isn’t a complaint, just a UI clarity issue that can prevent misunderstandings.
