Thread merge recently experienced

In the public paid version of the app, I have experienced a complete merge of all threads into one ongoing conversation. When I open a new thread, it has full relevance to the ongoing conversation. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Yes, I’ve had this happen a lot in the last few days. Telling it to ‘Ignore our past chat histories, and start fresh here.’ seems to work for getting it to stop, also check that you don’t have Reference chat history turned on in your personalization settings

ChatGPT can seem like it remembers previous conversations, but that depends on how it’s being used.

In a single session, it uses context from earlier in the same thread to give better answers, so it might feel like it’s “remembering” things. But once you start a new chat, that context is gone unless memory is turned on.

When memory is enabled (which you can check and control in your settings), ChatGPT can remember helpful facts you’ve shared, such as your name, writing preferences, or goals, to offer more useful responses over time. You’ll always be notified when something is added to memory, and you can delete anything at any time.

If you want ChatGPT to respond without using any memory or past context, just start a new chat and frame your prompt as if it’s the first time you’re talking.
