I think it’s worth noting that there’s a finite amount of attention available for GPT to work with, if you fill your instructions with “refuse to do x” you’ll have less attention available for the actual instructions you want GPT to carry out
@N2U Exactly! The attention limit is even such that after enough off-topic inquiries, the GPT will completely lose focus and “drop character”.
To test this, all you have to do is create a GPT and tell it something like: “Only answer questions related to rabbits and always act like a wise old sage in all of your response!” and then see how many random queries it takes for it to completely lose all of that rabbit sage wisdom and revert to standard model behavior. Once you understand that, and that the GPT was only role-playing with you to begin with, you’ll understand all of this security language is folly.

I have a feeling that many people spend so much time working the GPT the way “they think it should be used”, and don’t consider the strange, unseen, sometimes common, sometimes bizarre ways that other people will.
