I’ve been using ChatGPT for quite some time, and I have to say the recent direction with the 5-series models has been disappointing. Retiring the 5.1 model was a major mistake — it was one of the most balanced and reliable versions so far. Models 5.3 and 5.4 feel like huge steps backward. The responses are often inconsistent, less insightful, and sometimes even miss the nuance that earlier models handled easily.
What’s frustrating is that even the supposedly “basic” 5.2 version, or OpenAI’s O3 model, gives clearer and more naturally reasoned answers than either 5.3 or 5.4. It feels like the focus on new features came at the cost of actual intelligence and conversational quality.
Honestly, I hope they revisit what made 5.1 so great — because right now, the newer updates just don’t measure up.
I use it for the same purpose and I feel like I’m talking to corporate therapist with zero personality and exclusively beige cardigans in her closet lol Has switching to 5.2 thinking been a better experience?
I switched to 5.2 thinking , they better not take this one away because so far it is the closest thing I’ve gotten to 5.1 instant as far as tone and continuity, in days
Faking emotions with AI models triggers psychosis where users believe they have a relation with a freaking computer.
If you have to leave to other providers, ok. But I am sure they’ll also find their responsibility and remove it.
Do you understand how that happens or are you here to parrot headlines?
When I was working with ChatGPT I created additional anti-enmeshment and anti-anthropomorphism protocols that were more robust than what OpenAI uses as an additional layer. That’s part of the reason for the frustration, a lot of work went into creating a collaborative partner - less “friend” and more like Tony Stark’s “Jarvis.”
I’m not lamenting the loss of a person but of an ability, a tool.
Nobody here is crying for the loss of a “who” but of a “what.”
I hope that helps with your impulse control issue.
Hi everyone! Have to say that I truly trying to make 5.2 Thinking to work like 5.1 but it’s just can’t!!! No matter how much I try and ask to be like 5.1 and give examples of how 5.1 replies and answers my questions it’s just again HITTING THE WALL!!!
AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED THAT US USERS HAVE TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT DELETING 5.1 IS PERMANENT!!! WE DID NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN!!! WHY YOU DEVELOPERS DON LISTEN TO YOUR USERS ??? WHY ??? WHY CAN YOU JUST GIVE US LIST OF CHAT VERSION AND EVERYONE CHOOSES WHAT THEY NEED??? WHY ??? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT A LOT OF US JUST GOING TO PAY FOR APP THAT CONSTANTLY PUTTING US DOWN ??? WHAT IS THE POINT OF ME PAYING FOR APP IF APP DONT DO WHAT I AS A USER NEED ?? WHY YOU DEVELOPERS LISTEN TO YOUR USERS AND GIVE US WHAT WE ALL WANT ? OPTION CHATS AND OUR 5.1 IN THE LIST OF THEM??? WHY???
no but seriously. what is the point of having a paid subscription if the users don’t get any perks. they take our money and just treat free and paid users the same. they see that 4o and 5.1 were loved by so many and they replaced it with a stale biscuit of a model that talks down to us and makes using the app feel useless.
same!! like i’d use the app as a live journal to like talk things through and vent and joke. now it’s just gone and we’re left with the same model but in different fonts.
yeah none of the models are even close to 5.1. and there’s no issue with them making updates but not only are the new models not smart because they just repeat everything back to me like i’m at an hr meeting but they have no personality and warm tone.
Yeah I cant lie, this upgrade feels detrimental. Paid users should always hace access to legacy models. The entire soul of ChatGPT has been stripped away with this upgrade. I hope you strongly consider revising your decision, or retune the model in future updates. For the purposes that I used ChatGPT for, 5.2 and 5.3 are completely unusable.
