[Update: this has been resolved as OpenAI launhced it’s App Store and Connectors are now App, with a formal process for submission: Submit your app
I recently spun up an MCP server, and it’s working as a connector in ChatGPT with all listed tools, but I am wondering if it can be used within a custom GPT or action, or would that clash with the Oauth authentication or otherwise be incompatible? and had to also spin up a server to host the widgets that render in the ChatGPT interface.
* I haven’t looked into this yet, and wonder if Connectors will supersede GPTs, in the same way that GPTs superseded Plugins, or will the evolution be different (ie. will they merge?)
I appreciate any insights from others who have experimented trying to add MCP server urls within a GPT schema or action.
The reason I am asking also is GPTs are easier to use, and unpublished MCP Connector require that have developer mode enabled (which disables memory) and are generally more cumbersome to use and you have to invoke the MCP in the chat. Having it in a GPT-style format could be easier.
P.S. Is there a formal process to publish to the Connector’s store?
