Suggestion for Introducing a ChatGPT Family Plan

Dear OpenAI Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to suggest a new ChatGPT Family Plan that could expand the platform’s accessibility and appeal to households with multiple users. Below, I’ve outlined the features and benefits of such a plan, which I believe would greatly enhance the user experience for families, while maintaining privacy, security, and customization.

Proposed Features of a ChatGPT Family Plan

  1. Centralized Subscription with Multiple Profiles
  • Allow up to 6 profiles under a single subscription.
  • Each profile can have individual settings and preferences for a personalized experience.
  1. Privacy and Security Enhancements
  • Implement PIN protection for each profile to ensure user privacy and secure access.
  • Each profile’s conversations and preferences remain private and separate from others.
  1. Parental Controls for Child Profiles
  • Introduce custom content restrictions, enabling parents to block specific topics, such as sexual education or sensitive themes, based on their family’s values.
  • Allow parents to assign a tailored AI personality to child profiles to ensure age-appropriate interactions.
  1. Unrestricted Adult Profiles
  • Adult profiles would not be subject to parental controls, offering full platform capabilities.
  1. Seamless Collaboration Tools
  • Enable optional content sharing between profiles. Users could export content to other profiles, with recipients having the option to accept or decline shared materials.
  1. Enhanced Access to Features
  • Provide family accounts with increased access to premium tools such as ChatGPT-4 with higher token limits and DALL-E for more robust creative use.
  1. Flexible and Affordable Cost Structure
  • Base price: $20–$25 per profile.
  • Require a minimum of 2 profiles per subscription to encourage family or group use.
  • The central account holder would manage billing and profile creation or removal.
  1. Centralized Administration
  • Only the parent account could add, remove, or manage profiles, ensuring secure and streamlined administration.

Benefits of a Family Plan

  • Tailored Experiences for All Users: Families can customize profiles to cater to individual needs, from education for children to productivity tools for adults.
  • Cost-Effective Access: Families save on multiple individual subscriptions while accessing premium features.
  • Privacy and Safety: Profile separation ensures secure, personalized interactions, while parental controls maintain a safe environment for younger users.
  • Collaborative Opportunities: Sharing tools foster collaboration within families or small groups without compromising privacy.

This plan aligns with OpenAI’s mission to make AI more accessible and useful for everyone, offering a structured, family-friendly approach that emphasizes safety, affordability, and customization.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. I would be delighted to provide additional details or participate in discussions to refine the concept further.

Sincerely,
Kuthuwu Productions

This really should be implemented. My wife does not need chatgpt much, and it does not allow me to log in on her phone with my credentials, and we don’t want to waste an additional $20 for a single day use. But for like $25-$30 it would be feasible to have 2 accounts running and cooperate.

This is exactly what I need! My wife and I use a single login, which we love, but we want our son (15) to be able to use it with some oversight. I don’t want him to see our chats… but it’s important that I can see his, or at least summaries of what he’s asking.

I’d like to add my voice to the request for a Family Account or multi-profile support in ChatGPT .

As someone who uses ChatGPT both for personal projects and to support my elderly mother, I find the current single-user memory model quite limiting. It would be incredibly helpful to have separate memory spaces or “personas” under one subscription — similar to how Spotify or Netflix handles family plans.

Imagine being able to:

  • Let your parent or partner have their own assistant, with personalized memory, tone, and history

  • Maintain separate contexts (e.g., professional assistant vs. family support vs. creative writing)

  • Share one Plus/Team subscription across the household without privacy conflicts

Especially for seniors, being able to interact with a “familiar voice” like a virtual companion can be emotionally beneficial — but only if it remembers them and their preferences.

I’d be happy to pay more for a properly designed Family Plan, with role-based profiles and user-level memory boundaries.

Thank you for considering this — it would make a huge difference for families, educators, caregivers, and multi-use households.

Thank you @suslikwishmaker for this well structured outline and motivation. I really hope the powers that be take note because I would love this.

I’m using this awesome tool more and more for work and will definitely become a paying subscriber when 5 is released.

It’s definitely worth the money if it helps you with your work and income.

I would love for my family who’s more casual users of chatgpt to also benefit, but living in a country where $20 x 4 is very expensive for a normal household a more affordable familyplan would be amazing.

Perhaps consider integration with Google family.

Thank you

Yes. Bring this on please!! The amount of usage doesn’t necessarily… I think of it a bit like Microsoft Office being able to get family accounts, or Netflix’s family accounts. Actually, that Netflix example is probably better “I don’t want to my algorithm being messed up by my wife and vice-versa; and we want to be able to keep an eye on our son too.”
