Hi OpenAI Team,
I’d like to report an inconsistency in how projects are ordered in the sidebar between ChatGPT Web and the Windows desktop app.
Current behavior:
On ChatGPT Web, the project list appears to remain in a fixed order, possibly based on project creation time, regardless of recent conversations within those projects.
In contrast, the Windows desktop app displays projects in an order that reflects recent chat activity, making it much easier to find the projects I’m actively working on.
Requested improvements:
-
Sort projects in the ChatGPT Web sidebar by their most recent chat activity, in descending order.
-
Whenever a conversation within a project receives a new message, move that project to the top of the list.
-
Keep project ordering consistent between the web and desktop applications.
-
Ideally, provide a sorting option such as “Most Recently Active,” “Date Created,” or “Alphabetical.”
Why this matters:
I use many projects for different research and development tasks. On the web version, I frequently need to scroll through the project list to locate a project I was just working on.
The desktop application’s behavior is considerably more convenient and intuitive.
Expected behavior:
Projects should automatically move to the top of the sidebar whenever a conversation inside them is updated, just as they appear to do in the Windows desktop app.
I’ve attached two screenshots comparing the project ordering between the web and Windows desktop versions.
Please consider bringing this behavior to the web version, or offering it as a configurable sorting preference.
Thank you!
