Hello OpenAI Community,
My name is Arif Raza, and I’m a student in India preparing for the UPSC civil services exam.
I have a vision condition (MGD – Meibomian Gland Dysfunction), which makes reading from books and screens very difficult. Traditional screen readers are robotic and mentally draining to use for long hours.
But ChatGPT’s voice chat feature has helped me study more effectively and independently. Its natural voice makes it possible for me to engage with study material in a way that’s otherwise not accessible.
Unfortunately, the free tier’s limited voice access isn’t enough for my needs, and I cannot afford the Pro plan as an unemployed student.
I’ve contacted OpenAI Support, and they responded that free upgrades aren’t currently available.
I’m requesting:
- Whether OpenAI might consider extended voice access for users with accessibility needs,
- Or offer limited-time upgrades or a scholarship-style support system for students with medical challenges.
This technology has the power to change my life — and I’m hoping this post can contribute to future accessibility improvements.
Thank you for reading and for your support.
Sincerely,
Arif Raza
