Conversation branching via prompt editing and model switching/regeneration is potentially one of, if not THE most useful feature in all of ChatGPT.
However, only being able to switch branches via the browser forces me to constantly jump back and forth between the in-browser and the native app experience.
For those not in the know, currently, none of the native MacOS, iOS, Android, or Windows apps support branch switching. While they will all let you create a new branch by either a) editing a prompt, or b) switching a response’s model after generation to a different model, or regenerating the response using the currently-slected model, you cannot switch to the previous variant of a prompt or a reply, like you can with ChatGPT running in a web browser (see screenshot for an example).
Are there any plans to bring branch switching to any of the native ChatGPT apps?
This limitation makes it very difficult to work efficiently in the app, especially when analyzing responses, comparing different solutions, or iterating on ideas.
Hey! Quick question, has the branching feature made it to the macOS app yet? The app’s awesome and it’s become part of my daily routine, but honestly, not having branching really stands out. It’s one of my favorite things about ChatGPT, and having to hop between the app and the browser just to use it kind of kills my flow and gets frustrating. Is there any word on when it’s coming to the Mac app or why it’s not there yet? It would make a huge difference!
