We have a service that we don’t care about having the highest quality image and want something just approximating our prompt, we built this up around gpt-image-1-mini because we found it the right balance of understanding the input image with a good cost.
But gpt-image-1-mini is now being deprecated, and the next alternatives are almost 5x the cost.
We could handle a little bit higher price, but 5x is going to force us to find a different platform/model. So my question is, are there plans to release a gpt-image-2-mini or any other efficient small model with reduced cost? We have no use for the high quality generation of the full model.
Output from this topic’s contents, more background, and an image creation task requiring some reasoning in construction of an image, gpt-image-2 @ medium, a total cost of $0.0439:
(note that the price scaling depicted in absence of providing the AI good info is a guess at any higher quality and resolution; it’s more like 10x more, then 5x more.)
Ah I was not aware of that, the pricing gets a little bit hard to follow. it does seem with the input image my price is still increasing by about 30-50% overall but I think we can manage that
