Hello OpenAI Team,
I am a ChatGPT Plus user and I use ChatGPT extensively across web, Android, and desktop. I would like to suggest two features that I believe would be especially useful for frequent users.
Proposal 1 — “Real Usage” Dashboard in the Profile + Sharing Option
Goal: provide cumulative, cross-device usage statistics based on actual activity, rather than simply measuring how long ChatGPT remains open.
Possible metrics:
- Actual hours of use.
- Number of messages.
- Number of conversations.
- Active days.
- Account age.
- Usage streaks (optional).
- User level or category based on usage (optional).
Active hours: these should only be counted during periods of real interaction — for example, typing, sending messages, editing, or actively using a conversation — and should pause after a certain period of inactivity.
There could also be a “Share My Usage” button that generates a card or link with selectable statistics, for example:
- usage over the last 30 days;
- total usage;
- messages;
- hours;
- account age.
The user could choose which data to make visible.
Features such as “Your Year with ChatGPT” already exist, but it would be useful to have continuous usage statistics available directly from the user profile.
Proposal 2 — “Continue This Conversation” When Reaching the Limit
Goal: when a conversation reaches its effective context limit or begins to lose continuity, provide an option to click:
“Continue in a new chat.”
This should be available both in regular conversations and within Projects.
The new chat would automatically receive a continuity package generated from the original conversation, preventing users from having to manually create documents, summaries, or logs and then provide them again in a new chat.
This continuity package could preserve:
- important decisions and changes;
- relevant small iterations, such as prompt adjustments or edits;
- established requirements and criteria;
- the current state of the work;
- pending tasks;
- conventions and terminology used;
- references to important or “anchor” messages;
- relevant files and resources.
Within Projects, it could also make use of the instructions, files, chats, and context already available in the project.
From a user interface perspective, this could include:
- a manual button inside the
⋯menu; - an automatic suggestion when ChatGPT detects that a conversation is approaching its limit or beginning to lose context;
- an editable preview of the continuity package before opening the new chat.
For users who maintain conversations or projects over several weeks or months, this would help prevent information loss and allow projects to continue much more naturally across multiple chats.
Thank you for considering these proposals.
Best regards,
Salva
