Introduction:
The ChatGPT interface has become a valuable tool for generating conversational AI responses for a myriad of uses. However, a common use-case involves single-instance interactions or queries that do not require long-term retention. Presently, the user must manually delete these transient conversations to manage their chat history effectively.
Objective:
The proposal aims to introduce an ‘Ephemeral Chat’ feature, allowing users to select an auto-delete option for conversations they anticipate will be transient in nature.
Rationale:
- Privacy and Security: Users discussing sensitive topics may prefer the peace of mind that comes from knowing their conversations aren’t stored long-term (in the UI).
- Convenience: For those using ChatGPT for quick, one-time inquiries, automatic deletion saves time and keeps the chat history uncluttered.
Proposed Feature:
- Auto-Delete Toggle: A simple user interface element that allows users to set chats to be automatically deleted after a certain period or when the chat window is closed.
- Customization: Users can customize the auto-delete timing based on their preferences (e.g., immediately, after 1 hour, 24 hours, etc.).
