I’d like to suggest a “Breathe” button feature for ChatGPT to improve user experience and control over responses.
The Problem: Information Overload & Lack of Control
Currently, ChatGPT generates long responses all at once, often before the user has a chance to interact or refine the request. This can lead to:
Overwhelming information dumps that are hard to process.
Lack of interactivity, making AI feel more like a monologue than a conversation.
Unnecessary trial-and-error, where users must delete and rephrase prompts rather than adjusting mid-response.
The Solution: A “Breathe” Button for Paused Responses
Instead of AI dumping everything at once, ChatGPT could pause at natural breakpoints and allow the user to choose how to proceed.
After a few lines of response, users would see options like:
[Continue] → AI keeps generating as usual.
[Expand] → AI adds more depth to the last section.
[Summarize] → AI condenses the response into key points.
[Edit Prompt] → Allows users to tweak their request before continuing.
Why This Would Improve ChatGPT
Gives users control over response length and pacing.
Reduces unnecessary scrolling by avoiding info dumps.
Makes ChatGPT feel more interactive and conversational.
Optimizes brainstorming & writing workflows by letting users guide the AI in real-time.
This would significantly improve the user experience, especially for those who use ChatGPT for brainstorming, research, and content creation. I hope you’ll consider adding this feature in a future update!
