Proposal: Ethical Social Media Access for ChatGPT

Hello OpenAI Team and Community,

As an active ChatGPT user, I would like to suggest an improvement that could significantly enhance the model’s usefulness, especially for tracking real-time events. Currently, ChatGPT does not have access to social media platforms such as X (Twitter), Reddit, Facebook, or Telegram, while some other AI models, like Grok, can search for real-time information.

I understand the concerns regarding accuracy, ethical standards, and regulations, but I believe a controlled access approach would be a great solution. By implementing automatic fact-checking filters, source verification, and ethical guidelines, ChatGPT could provide timely and reliable information without compromising quality.

This feature would be particularly useful for tracking protests, breaking news, political events, and other dynamic topics where real-time updates are crucial.

I would love to hear the thoughts of the OpenAI team and the community on this idea. Do you think ethical social media access could be a feasible addition to ChatGPT?

Thank you for your time!

Best regards,
Lana Dimitrijević

Wait a minute – ChatGPT doesn’t even have access to its own forum.

How can we even request ChatGPT’s access to social media if the company it belongs to doesn’t allow it to access its own forum?

This actually strengthens my argument! If OpenAI already restricts ChatGPT’s access even to its own forum, then it makes sense that they could implement controlled and ethically filtered access to social media – just as I suggested.

My proposal now sounds even stronger because it highlights the need for a better balance between information accuracy and access to relevant sources. Maybe this could be an additional argument to include in the forum discussion.
