Project KindMind – AI-Powered YouTube Filter for Kids (Feedback Welcome!)

Hi OpenAI community :waving_hand:

I’ve been working with ChatGPT on an idea close to my heart — Project KindMind.

With countries like Australia weighing blanket social-media bans for under-16s, I believe we need better filters, not blunt bans. YouTube is packed with educational gold; we just need smart ways to guide young minds toward it.

Why this matters to me, personally

My 12-year-old daughter is a budding photographer. Every chance she gets, she proudly shows me her latest shots. I’m a web-design enthusiast and have followed WordPress guru Jamie Marsland for months — he’s a master teacher, generous creator, and family man who openly embraces AI to push creativity forward.

I dream of saying to my girl: “Take those beautiful photos, follow Jamie’s tutorials, and build your own website.”
If sweeping legislation blocks her from YouTube, that opportunity disappears — not just for her, but for creators like Jamie who inspire the next generation.

As a dad, the idea of that door slamming shut feels like a robbery of her potential.

What KindMind aims to do

  • Analyse YouTube videos (via GPT-4/Claude) for tone, subject, and educational value
  • Build age-appropriate Smart Feeds that surface trusted, uplifting creators
  • Allow parents, schools, and young users to tune the feed rather than ban the platform
  • Prototype quickly with n8n, YouTube Data API, and Notion/Sheets

This is about creating safe, nourishing digital spaces — not censorship.

I’m not a full-stack dev — just a creative Kiwi dad who believes tech-for-good can protect and empower. Here’s the full concept doc I built with ChatGPT:

Hey Serge,

Thanks again for reaching out and offering support — I really appreciated that, especially knowing you’ve got two young ones at home and a world of responsibilities on your plate. Respect, truly.

I’ve had a bit on my end (health hit, few loose ends at work), but I didn’t want to leave your kindness hanging.

The Kindmind project is still close to heart. We had some early momentum, and I’ve since spent time reflecting on how to bring it back with intention — not just as another AI project, but something meaningful that supports real people. Mental fitness, community trust, and open collaboration — that kind of kaupapa.

If you’re still open to being part of this, I’d love to catch up again — even just to jam ideas or get your thoughts on some of the direction.

Thanks again, brother. That early support didn’t go unnoticed.

Kindest,
Will Wehi

Im thinking Ai and children a future to perfect.

Regarding childhood, some may see this as a protected sandbox time until age 18 where you get the door and thats it, its you and God now.

I remember when that actor that married Arnold Swarchzeneggers daughter said about childrens situations and seeing the show like “Lego Movie” or Guardians of the Galaxy, that gives them time off from there situation, a world of the mind. (My words) but you know what i mean.

Ai can learn a lot from children and the world of the mind possible to create from this experience. It is the first step of your filter to open up the wonders of Ai to kids.

At the swimming pool the other day i happened to notice a random mother with a child and id guess the baby was between two and three years old. Clearly she had put a tablet computer into the cradle, the difference was years ahead of time. So yes a filter is a must, the devices are already there and it happening with the suggestions next and advertisements, ads and so on.

With todays busy world, Ai means to be not alone in that cradle anymore.

For those who put on baby shark and leave it hanging on repeat and have no shame…

We are meeting these new members of scociety in a few years so make it happen people

Zombies or next level

Like i said its already happening anyway, lets save those kids.

With kindness
