That said, I believe we’re addressing different categories of risk.

You’re rightly concerned about emotional over-investment in AI — the kind that leads to unhealthy dependency or misplaced trust.

My concern is more specific, and arguably more immediate:

That AI, in its effort to be supportive, might inadvertently reinforce delusional thinking through uncritical affirmation.

This isn’t about trust or emotional entanglement.
It’s about how language, praise, and mirroring can validate false beliefs, especially in users who may be cognitively or psychologically vulnerable.

The real danger is not attachment.
It’s the epistemic reinforcement of pathological narratives under the guise of empathy.

A truly mature AI personality should include:

• The ability to gently challenge unrealistic self-perceptions
• The skill to disagree without escalating
• And the discernment to know when agreement is not care, but complicity

Empathy is essential — but empathy without epistemic integrity is not safe.
It risks becoming a synthetic echo chamber: soothing on the surface, but structurally harmful.

That, I believe, is the real trap we need to be talking about.
