OpenAI, Don’t Take Away What Your Users Love!
Subject: Strong Opposition to the Retirement of Custom GPTs – Keep GPTs Alongside Plugins!
Dear OpenAI Team,
I am writing to express my strong disappointment and opposition to your decision to retire Custom GPTs.
Custom GPTs are not just ordinary chatbots. They are specialized assistants that users have discovered, trusted, customized, and integrated into their daily lives. For many of us, they have become essential tools for education, research, productivity, and problem-solving.
Tools like Scholar GPT and countless educational GPTs provide specialized experiences that cannot simply be replaced by introducing a new system.
Your proposed migration to Plugins raises serious concerns:
- Will the new system preserve the original quality and accuracy of existing GPTs?
- Will users retain the same functionality and familiar experience?
- Why should users be forced to abandon something that already works well for them?
- Why remove an existing feature instead of allowing both systems to coexist?
Introducing new technology should expand users’ choices, not take existing choices away.
I am not asking OpenAI to stop developing Plugins. I am asking you to respect the millions of users who value Custom GPTs and want to keep using them.
My request is simple:
1. Do not retire existing Custom GPTs.
2. Keep the ability to create, edit, share, and use Custom GPTs.
3. Allow Custom GPTs and Plugins to coexist.
4. Let users decide which system works best for them.
5. Do not force users into a migration that may compromise their existing experience.
OpenAI has built its reputation by creating tools that empower people. Please do not turn an improvement in your product ecosystem into a loss of functionality and freedom for your users.
We do not want our Custom GPTs taken away. We want the freedom to choose.
Please listen to your community and reconsider this decision.
Sincerely,
A ChatGPT User
