Feature Request: Pin Messages Inside Conversations
I’d like to suggest a simple feature that could significantly improve ChatGPT for users working on long-term projects.
After a few months, a single ChatGPT conversation can become as valuable as a notebook or a knowledge base—but much harder to navigate.
ChatGPT is increasingly being used as a workspace, not just a question-and-answer tool. Many conversations grow to hundreds or even thousands of messages over weeks or months. This is common for projects such as software development, home renovation, vehicle repair, research, business planning, studying, writing, and many other long-running tasks.
As ChatGPT continues to evolve into a workspace for long-term projects, navigation inside large conversations becomes just as important as the quality of the AI responses.
Today, even when users know the information already exists somewhere in the conversation, they usually have only two options:

Scroll through hundreds of messages.

Try to remember specific keywords and search for them.
In long conversations, keyword search is often not enough because users simply don’t remember the exact wording from weeks or months ago.
Proposed solution
Allow users to pin any individual message, whether it was written by the user or by ChatGPT.
The experience should remain extremely simple:

Long-press any message.

Tap Pin Message.

A small Pinned Messages button appears at the top of the conversation.

Tapping it opens a compact list of pinned messages.

Selecting one instantly jumps to that message.
Optionally, users could rename a pinned message to make the list easier to navigate, and unpin it at any time. Pinned messages should remain available for the lifetime of the conversation unless the user explicitly removes them.

Keep it simple
This feature does not need folders, additional navigation, or a complex organization system.
Its only purpose is to eliminate endless scrolling while keeping the interface clean and intuitive.
The Pin Message pattern is already familiar from apps like Telegram, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord. Users already understand what pinned messages are, so the feature would require almost no learning.
Most importantly, this feature should remain entirely user-controlled. There should be no automatic pinning, AI-generated organization, or automatic categorization. Users should decide what is important and what deserves to be pinned.
Why this is different from pinned chats or Projects
Pinned chats help organize conversations.
Projects help organize related chats.
This feature solves a completely different problem:
fast navigation inside a single long conversation.
For users who use ChatGPT as a long-term workspace, this small improvement could save time every single day without making the interface more complicated.
I believe this small feature would benefit a wide range of users while preserving ChatGPT’s simplicity.
