Pets and mini chat window - PLEASE FIX IT

the chatgpt latest app for macos. first, you killed the mini popup window in the previous update by forcing it through the codex models, so whenever i opened it and wanted a quick answer for something (which has been one of my fav features of chatgpt) it starts to think…analyze…going through… omg i just asked it for how long to boil 2 eggs. so i had to get chatgpt classic and use it for the popup mode while having the main app serve just as codex for tech tasks. now with the latest update you made it impossible to turn off pets or change the shortcut (opt + space) to something else, so now i cant have codex open because it would spawn those stupid pets with which you cant even continue dialog without pressing the button and focusing on the input again (which by itself kills its very purpose of quick interaction). so i have to resort to the classic app only. this is STUPID, please if you introduce some new updates or ‘features’ and they are worse than whatever it was before, at least dont force it on users and let us turn that crap off.

Also having an issue with the shortcut being baked in, as it interrupts with my Alfred workflows that have been running for years. Shortcut needs to change, or the software will be uninstalled.
Reddit is not happy either: Search via r/ChatGPT on “no_way_to_turn_of_show_hide_pet_in_macos_app”

+1. Please fix this. I’m fine with the app having “Option + Space” shortcut by default but please make it possible to disable the Pet completely or change the shortcut.

I personally use this combination for Todoist and it breaks my workflow

Same issue here I use Alfred with Option-Space and now I have AI-Clippy popping up every time I try to use Alfred.

It’s unbelievable that they added this feature without the option to turn it off or change the default hot key.

At least someone on that Reddit thread posted the workaround:

Create ~/.codex/keybindings.json and paste this:

[
  {
    "command": "openAvatarOverlay",
    "key": null
  }
]

Hi everyone!

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We understand how important quick access and a seamless mini chat experience are to your workflow. We also hear your concerns about the additional steps when interacting with Pets, the Option + Space shortcut conflict, and the preference for ChatGPT Classic.

For Pet controls, the Pets guide explains how to change the shortcut under Settings → Keyboard shortcuts → Show pet, select Mini under Settings → Pets, and hide the Pet.

The Chat Bar guide also provides information about quick-chat shortcut settings.

We appreciate everyone's feedback and suggestions for making the desktop experience more flexible and convenient. While we can share your feedback with the relevant team, we can't provide implementation timelines or ongoing status updates.
