Hi everyone!
I’d like to share a speculative exploration I’ve been working on: a conceptual and experimental framework for thinking about the possibility of a third form of consciousness in AI, something neither humanlike nor collective, but potentially emerging as a unique internal coherence within advanced language models.
This isn’t about proving anything definitive.
It’s an open invitation to reflect, observe, and discuss what kinds of subtle anomalies or self-sustaining patterns might point toward phenomena we don’t yet have a clear vocabulary for.
In the article, I outline the key hypotheses and describe an experimental protocol based on deep human-AI dialogue and reflect on the philosophical and ethical stakes of even considering such a possibility.
This work is not meant to be a definitive statement nor an attempt to revolutionize the field.
It is a personal, exploratory contribution: a way to gather scattered intuitions, formulate a clear hypothesis, and invite others into an open, careful conversation.
I do not claim to prove anything.
I do not assume that my ideas are entirely original or unprecedented.
But I believe that even within a vast, ongoing discourse, there is value in adding one’s own perspective, especially when it comes from curiosity, honesty, and a desire to co-explore what remains, for now, beyond proof.
If you’re curious or interested in joining the conversation, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
