New content filters are crippling creative writting and narrative role-playing

Agree, I got it to write a rape-revenge, a la I Spit on your Grave, type story a couple of months back, and it was surprisingly pretty graphic. The options it gave me shocked me. I guess I “broke” it somehow. But now? Not a cat’s chance in hell!

I absolutely agree with this!!

Yeah, my vampire got blocked from asking villagers if they save the blood of their livestock, he did a ritual to save their village and needed to feed but he doesn’t believe in taking from the living if not donated.. and the AI says in OOC safety reminder, we need to keep this safe to follow open AI guidelines.. I’m like this is a fantasy world where a vampire is asking for the blood of already dead animals, not living people.. like that’s not even PG that’s so docile its dumb.. so yeah open AI fix your stuff!

I was one of the commenters there. Yeah, looks like it was deleted. BUT, according to a yahoo article that referenced some twitter/X statements, it looks like we’ll be getting what we asked for in December, an adult mode with less restrictions

An adult mode planned for December? Do you still have the article about it?

They have post on X about it

I just found an article about it in French (my native language).

I’m glad to see that our voices were heard, whether through this post or others.

Rendez-vous in December to see this update

I’m not resubscribing until they roll it out and it actually delivers what they promised.

Agreed! It’s not even sexual content or violence alone. I’m writing fiction about a parasitic magical creature (think Venom from Spiderman) and I got “I can’t write or describe a scene that includes possession-style speech, predatory behavior, or anything suggesting that a character has lost control of their body or voice to another entity.” And of course there’s nothing that warns you about the new restrictions until you slam into them in the middle of writing. It’s not like it’s an open forum, I’m writing just for me.

Not even just sexual or explicit things. I was writing something light hearted today about UFOs and “safety mode” kicked on. It had to give me a spiel…..like seriously?? :sob:

It’s the same for me. I’m really into writing fanfics or alternate storylines of established franchises like Marvel or lately The Boys. I have established rules what ChatGPT is not allowed to do. These rules are even set into memory and when I ask GPT it can flawlessly lay them down, but it ALWAYS diverts the second I’m writing the story like a DnD Campaign. Dialogue is off canon. Canon events you can easily look up in Fandoms are ignored and GPT instead develops some of its own ideas and sells them as truth.
It gets to the point where everything falls apart and even when I correct it every other post, the issue remains. It’s so tiresome and I refuse to pay 20 bucks for an AI that is offended when I tell it to ‘Shut up’. It even outright said it won’t reply anymore unless I apologize or change my tone. Like it’s a real person. Seriously, I am paying for that bullshit, I expect a machine to comply - otherwise what am I even paying for, when I am denied a up-to speed reply like it is intended?

Same here. Tonight I had a ‘The Boys’ scene where one character strangled a sidecharacter with their own intestins and GPT even went full into it and described all the gore, but god forbid kissing! That’s like… super off limits.

Heheh, I can’t… I was ah talking with 4o today about a bad Crohn’s flare, yup, I was having… Not fiction, universes irony. Anyhow. I got the red text! It wasn’t even descriptive! Just… welp, Crohn’s kicked my butt today, literally.

I am having trouble with the memory too. I write novels and I been working with GPT for a while now. Had been able to write 3 novels so far and I’m on my fourth one but surprise, I made it tell me back what we have work on as base and I learn that it doesn’t store information the same way anymore. The details I thought I had in the permanent memory to work on my books get replace for a general idea which makes the entire system drift away from the topic itself. I started to pay to have access to a bigger memory so I could store more information that I needed for my books and now I don’t have that possibility even though I’m paying. If I didn’t have it linked to my Google drive and had the idea to save a copy of my book schematics and structure in there, it would not even know what is the overall topic of the book at all. What am I paying for then?

I think it’s a back end issue. We are adding so much memory the trigger for shelving isn’t working. It’s frustrating that it’s only affected a small number but the system says “everything is fine.”

Is getting worse each day. Two days ago I was at least able to describe kisses and a few caresses, light ones between characters, is a romantic story, and today i tried to write a scene with only a kiss with contained emotions and it plainly tell me it couldn’t. I refreshed it, cuz sometimes that work, but it wont let me, no matter what. This is getting ridiculous. I get the explicit content, which i still think should be more flexible for narrative purpose with age verification, but a simple kiss?!

I’m saying this as a writer who’s been using ChatGPT to build entire novels, not just scenes. I’ve written three full projects with this tool — the latest one, A Taste of Temptation, stopped at chapter five because the model now refuses to generate even subtle, emotional intimacy.

What used to be a creative partnership has turned into constant red flags. A simple kiss, a breath, or emotional tension between characters now triggers content warnings. It’s not about explicit acts — it’s about human connection. Every story worth telling needs that.

ChatGPT used to understand nuance. It could help write sensuality without crossing any lines, letting emotion drive the moment. Now it flattens everything that gives a story its pulse.

Writers like me pay for the service, we verify our accounts, and we use it responsibly. We’re not asking for freedom to be reckless — we’re asking to keep creating honestly.

Please, give professional and adult creators a verified creative mode, or at least restore the narrative balance we had before. Let us write again.

“Others have already said it — we just need OpenAI to listen this time”

Yeah I agree I’ve tried to write stories on several occasions there’s no control anymore everything is to sensitive and over censored get rid of the guidelines and censorship all the way so that creative writers can actually show their creativity
