My biggest issue with the new “ChatGPT with Canvas” is that ChatGPT ignores the instruction not to output to Canvas in 99% of cases.
This becomes problematic if you’re working on more than just a single function within a conversation because ChatGPT consistently defaults to the last opened Canvas for output when it operates within Canvas.
If you discuss different methods in between, it will try to apply changes to the previous Canvas, where an entirely different method is displayed, and then becomes thoroughly confused.
Yes its a mess… relying on reloading the chatGBT main page to select the current project. and still it does not render the canvas -or the codefile to the end.
I am having issues as well, and ChatGPT auto changes to canvas without me wanting to go canvas. Only way I can get the regular ChatGPT 4o is to start with the mini then when asking my prompt say Do not use canvas… but on the next prompt i might not include that so it decides to auto use canvas and with canvas it never finishes generating the full code.
Also, bugs fixing or error checking is not working very well not with python code anyway. I can only use the 1o-preview not and is limited to 50 queries a week. How could I disable canvas or make at least make it stop the automatic switch to canvas?
Hopefully it improves the code generating length and have the continue generating feature functional for canvas. Also to make sure that if canvas is not selected in the models, to make sure it doesn’t go to canvas automatically because the user is using ChatGPT 4o.
I’m only using the free plan on ChatGPT, and the responses are generated in a file like manner. I’m assuming that’s canvas. The problem is that, on my browser on my phone and laptop, i cannot open the generated files at all! On the app, the generated responses are just loading lines, which is highly annoying. I wish there was a way to disable this feature!
The auto canvas bug seems to be resolved somewhat. What is annoying now is the web feature, chatgpt 4o auto uses it sometimes and then you cannot switch to chatgpt o1 because it used the web feature. I haven’t tried the canvas editor as it was a bit too buggy for me to use, so i cannot comment on that if it better or not. OpenAI seem to be fixing the issues slowly.
When canvas feature works as expected, it will be an excellent add-on to create apps or debug code in an interactive way.
The canvas is unusable with long script conversation ! it’s a pain and he don’t understand when you try to add some function, always restart all the scripting part… what a mess guys, please remove this pain…
I’ve figured it out! For those who don’t use GPT plus, you can go to settings and set a suggestion to not use canvas. Just type in “don’t use canvas to generate responses,” and it will generate responses by writing them out. And the regenerate button is back!
