Moving To New Account With Memories & Chats

Dear OpenAI Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request a feature enhancement that would allow users to transfer or merge their memories and chat histories between different ChatGPT accounts.

Currently, I understand that memories are tied to individual accounts, and this can make it difficult when switching between accounts or creating new ones, especially for users who want to maintain continuity in their interactions. As a user who values the ability to keep track of key preferences, ongoing projects, and personal context, I believe that a feature to transfer or sync memories between accounts would greatly improve the experience.

This feature would be especially useful in cases where users need to switch accounts for various reasons, such as upgrading to a new account, managing different devices, or simply organizing personal data. By allowing users to transfer or maintain their memories and chat histories across accounts, OpenAI can enhance user satisfaction and make the experience more seamless.

I understand that this might require significant changes, but I believe it would be a valuable addition to the service. If such a feature is not yet available, I would love to know if it’s something that is being considered for future updates.

I guess the memory if you mean the memory you can get in your account you could just copy and insert into the new account, I guess. Because you could even tell to ChatGPT to store something in its memory.

I don’t know, yet, if it is possible to re-import ALL your chats onto a new account yourself. BUT, at least there are some browser extensions that can do an EXPORT.

So, you wouldn’t necessarily lose them.

Another idea would definitely ask the OpenAI Support and tell them why you need to move those. They may have additional ways we don’t know here about, yet.
